JAKI COFFEY

Colour, found objects and narrative engage me. I enjoy exploring these themes and how they can be used to create a playful aspect to my wearable pieces.

In my current body of work I have constructed wearable, yellow skips and taken advantage of the skip aesthetic by utilising found objects. Detachable elements in my work allow for interaction. The wearer is invited to 'fill their own skip' which encourages my idea of wearer as curator.

Skip brooches act as the common element but they are also transferable to the neckpieces which I have constructed. The neckpieces can be worn with or without the brooch and can stand alone and function as work in their own right. The necklaces are constructed of found objects, furthering the skip aesthetic but also contain gold plated metal elements which contrast the 'rubbish' but also question the notion of preciousness.
I invest equally in the design and making process which results in an engaging and well thought out products which still retain some levity.

Using a variety of materials including copper, steel, magnets and found objects I have created a small collectable range of wearables to delight and amuse the beholder.
