Deborah Kelly Hopkins

I have been a designer maker of contemporary jewellery since I graduated from Birmingham’s School of Jewellery in 1996. The inspiration for my work comes from the natural textures and forms I see around me everyday in architecture, iron works and stone.  I love the fact you can take raw materials like metal and stone and through manipulation, fabrication and fine finishing make them into something beautiful and precious.

I currently work with precious metals set with diamonds and semi-precious gems creating designs simple in form with heavy texture and contrasting finishes to produce modern yet timeless collections for men and women.

My designs are always evolving with new pieces being added to my collections on a regular basis. I also enjoy making commission pieces.

Originally from Buckinghamshire I studied Silversmithing and Jewellery Design at Birmingham’s UCE. After graduating I stayed in Birmingham and joined the Design Fellowship, a scheme to help artists start their own business.

In 1998 I launched my business working from a shared studio in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Working part time at first until with the aid of European funding I was able to commit myself full time to the business from 2000.

In 2005 I won the British Jewellers Association Award for Excellence in Jewellery. That same year I fell in love and in 2006 I moved to Cambridge to be with my now husband.

I have now been in business for over 10 years and my collections are available through many independent retailers and galleries across the UK.
