of which will be exhibited in her forthcoming shows.
Ruth
has built up her reputation since her graduation from Manchester
in 2001 where she developed her ultra feminine and romantic 'flora'
collection, using a unique combination of porcelain, silver and
gold. Her career was launched at 'New Designers' show at the Business
Design Centre in London, where she scooped the Wedgwood Future in
Ceramic Design Award and joint New Designer of the Year. Since then
Ruth, has exhibited internationally in the UK, Europe, Asia and
America. She has recieved prestigious commissions, including for
the fashion phone launch for Nokia and, her work is also held in
several private collections. She has bejewelled celebrities such
as Davina McCall and Maggie Gylenhalle.
Ruth's
inspiration for her new collections comes from the history of jewellery
and lifecycles. The opulent 'Hoard' collection was inspired by portraits
of aristocracy displayed in all their riches. Old stones are given
a new life in contemporary settings, where emeralds and garnets
glimmer from in between rich layers of gold, each piece a treasure.
imbued with a sense of discovery which evokes grandeur of times
past. The
'Encrustations' series was inspired by stories of shipwrecks and
forgotten underwater worlds. Ruth uses jewels and colours of the
sea; pearl, coral and aquas, combined with silver to create a collection
that conveys the transient cycle of nature, growth, life and decay.
