Biography
After a varied working life, initially as a teacher, followed
by a long and interesting career in arts administration, community
arts and theatre, I went to University and emerged in 1993 with
a BA Hons in Jewellery and Silversmithing.
My
jewellery and metal work is a synthesis of my creativity with the
personal and political beliefs I have developed through my life
experience.
I draw on ancient shapes and traditions of female power and give
them a contemporary form and context. Words are a major feature
of the work - they are used as decoration and may be ambiguous in
their meaning. Often words are split between two, three and four
pieces so that what appears on the individual ring or bracelet is
indecipherable and the marks only make sense when put together with
another piece.
