NINA BUKVIC

Croatian born Nina Bukvic graduated in 1998 in Jewellery Design from the College of Art & Design, Central St Martins, London.

From the outset her works have fused a passion for elaborate textile techniques with her unique manipulation of fine and varied materials, which she combines into a signature style that is immediately recognisable.

Her early works are perhaps best described by Ralph Turners' review for Crafts; "Nina Bukvic professes to be more liberated when allowing the craft of goldsmith an almost free reign. She writes; 'I play around with material until they take shape almost by themselves '. This 'playing around' enlivened her work - particularly her black oxidised wire ring which reminds me slightly of Alexander Calders' nimble fingered jewellery technique. Calders dexterity with wire was astonishing, with witty one-line wire drawings, which when illustrated could be mistaken for pencil. Bukvic's globular welding and 'weaving' also celebrated wit and spontaneity where 'faults' are left undisguised and exposed for their own informal aesthetic."

Her recent and current collections still exhibit these striking trademark features now alongside an increase in the technical dexterity and manipulation of materials which results in wearable objects of extreme delicacy, intricacy and minuteness of detail. She uses tiny wires and chains produced from either fine gold or blackened silver which she weaves, melts and then fuses with both beautifully cut and naturally shaped gemstones.

Nina Bukvic's work is currently selling in numerous stores and galleries across UK, Europe, Russia and USA.
