MIRRI DAMER

My training in sculpture strongly influences my work, which I hope portrays a natural strength of form and an understanding of proportions. My designs are arrived at through an organic, ongoing process, which meanders from experimentation to natural conclusion. I am very much inspired by the beauty and edginess I see in my surroundings. The combinations and components in nature and life, and the multiples that build to create strength. I love the mixture of strong and fragile, and solid forms sitting comfortably with something quite delicate. “..the jewellery that I design and make is a result of recording what I see while walking on the Cornish coast. The beauty in nature provides endless inspiration for me.."

Mirri was recently commissioned by Falmouth University to design and make a ceremonial headpiece and brooch for the new chancellor of the university, Dawn French. The theme was Cornish flora and fauna and Mirri was inspired by the term " blasted heath " used to describe the wind swept trees that dot the Cornish coastline. The final piece is made in precious metals and incorporates Cornish serpentine and sea shells.
