MIKALA DJORUP
With a traditional training as background, I find great pleasure in working with traditional processes and materials, combining them with a contemporary aesthetic. I aim for rough, but elegant simplicity, a clean expression with an occasional humorous touch. The surfaces that emerge in the process of making fascinate me, and are left matt and raw so show the metal from a different side. The gemstones I use must match my liking for the unusual and slightly unconventional.
Mikala did a traditional jewellery apprenticeship in her native Copenhagen before graduating in jewellery and silversmithing with first class honours from London Metropolitan University. Soon after graduating, she opened her shop in Gabriel's Wharf on the South Bank which she ran successfully for 11 years, before moving to the iconic Oxo Tower where she is currently based. She regularly attends prestigious exhibitions and jewellery fairs both at home and abroad.
