Pamela Dickinson
I decided I wanted to become a jeweller in 1968 when I was seventeen because it seemed to offer so many possibilities for creativity and self expression. This perception was consolidated by experience, and the more I work the more ideas present themselves. I love the materials, the relationship with the body and the tactile qualities, the scope for colour, brilliance and three dimensions, the sense of preciousness and permanence and most of all the intimacy of jewellery. I specialise in lapidary, granulation, model making and carving but they are all subsidiary to the main business of communicating through creating objects using original ideas and fine workmanship.
