JESSICA FROST

The running theme throughout the work is structure, the form of buildings and their surroundings. I photograph urban scenarios, looking for forms that I can see in the midst of different environments.
I explore different forms, colours, and materials that I link to the images, silicone, wood and metal. The pieces are composed of simple and complex shapes and a variety of scales. I am interested in the juxtapositions that are created through material, colour, shape and form, for example hollow next to solid and wood next to silicone.
For that reason I have been looking at the work of Jantje Fleischhut who uses plastics and metal for the forms and structures of necklaces and brooches; I have looked at Nicolas Cheng and liked the way he layers organic materials ‘imperfectly’. Another example is Katja Prins, I liked her use of monochrome that adds to the simplicity of her shapes and the forms, creating these animated and comic like wearable pieces.
