SHONA MacSWEEN
My jewellery is derived from a fascination of the strange and wonderful realm of gargoyles and supernatural creatures.
Just as gargoyles guard and protect, my jewellery pieces are creatures that protect and comfort their wearers’ when worn.
Seemingly sinister, these talismans can also be seen as sweet. Or vice versa?
These pieces are made to remain on the body, subtle yet provocatively.
They are ambiguous forms that do not quite reveal themselves, only just being recognisable, leaving you feeling (quite) unsure, and maybe a little disturbed.
I enjoy the unexpected weights and textures from the various materials I have chosen. I work in oxidised silver and other various materials, making each piece unique.
I create rings and shoulder pieces to perch on the hand and shoulder as gargoyles would on buildings.
I work with many materials for variety that include oxidised silver, light weight modelling clay, resin, leather and latex.
